Weekend in San Francisco
I have begun planning our next adventure. My husband and I are going to take an extended weekend trip to San Francisco. If you are from the Pacific Northwest, San Francisco is a great option for an affordable and relatively easy to get to trip.
Our main plan is to see the city for the first time, take some incredible photos and document our experience firsthand.
The second part of our plan is thrills! We love rollercoasters so we are going to spend a couple days at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. We will check out all the food, all the rollercoasters, the shopping and the animals! This is a unique the park neither of us have ever been to, is very affordable for a theme park, and has double digit rollercoasters. So it is a great fit for us adrenaline junkies!

As we are planning step number one is always budget. Checking out the dates for the best time to travel based off of flight costs and hotel costs. This brings us to our first major planning decision:
Drive or Fly?
I know we could experience some beautiful brief stops along the route from Washington, through Western Oregon and Northern California. My husband and I have never road tripped without family. So it could definitely be a great opportunity for some quality time.
On the other hand we would have a lot more time to explore in San Francisco, be a lot less tired and have amore relaxing experience if we fly. Flying does mean we will have the added costs of paying for Lyft for traveling within the city.
Sound off in the comments below which you would choose?
Speaking of Lyft… As far as rental cars, rideshares and taxis go we have learned from experience that Lyft is the way to go. Our previous experiences in Central Florida and Southern California have made us Lyft loyalists. And we do have a great referral code right now, if you would like a discount on your first couple of rides with Lyft. Click on the link below to use Lyft and enter our referral code.
Now as we weigh the pros and cons of transportation, let’s move to the fun part. How should we spend our time in San Francisco? I am going to show you all our top choices I have found for ways to explore the city. And as we narrow it down we will be sure to bring you along on what we end up actually doing.
This is a four-five hour tour that includes exploring the giant redwood sequoias at Muir Woods, time for shopping and browsing in Sausalito, a drive across the Golden Gate Bridge and a ride on the Sausalito ferry back to San Francisco.
We have never seen the redwoods, or any of these locations so this is a solid and relatively affordable option we are considering.
A similar option we are considering is a tour that still hits the Redwoods, Sausalito but also includes a tour of the biggest spots in San Francisco. This Tour is 5-6 hours and only $10 more per person than the shorter option.
This sunset cruise of the San Francisco Bay is a must do for us on this trip. We will definitely be booking this experience. I can’t wait to take some incredible video and photographs, and I also can’t wait to just experience this first hand with my husband. I am so excited for this and all of the incredible sites we will get to see from the water.
Depending on the type of trip you are planning to San Francisco and how much time you have there are many other incredible experiences available. From some very highly rated Wine Country experiences to small group day trips to Yosemite, and even a tour inside of Alcatraz. And for an incredible splurge you can enjoy a flight tour! This is on our San Francisco Bucket List. There is so much to experience in the Golden City we will definitely have to come back for a longer trip in the future with our son.
